Report from Chris and Sandra Dean
We had 2 nights in Speyer staying in the Domhof Hotel. A very picturesque hotel within walking distance of the town.
The hotel had a gorgeous courtyard which at night was lit up with fairy lights making it look magical, which was a great place for us all to gather and have a catch up of the day’s events with a drink or 2.
We started the day with a delicious breakfast and headed into the town to peruse the shops finding a vegan fish and chip shop that we thought we would re-visit early evening for dinner (for the Mrs).
After spending some time in town, we made our way to the River Rhine for a coffee and watch the river traffic. A gentle stroll back to town passing the Marina and returning via a charming & quiet residential area.
Speyer was also a good opportunity for some to visit the Technic museum and Sea life Centre.
A good number of the cars were stored in the secure underground garage. There was an opportunity for any maintenance and car washing to happen, although for the maintenance it would have been handy for the lights to have stayed on as they were on sensors.
Upon returning early evening to the fish & chip shop we found it had sold out of almost everything, however we found a delicious meal on our doorstep Hausbauerei imdomhof right next door to our hotel (don’t go touring with a vegan it was a nightmare trying to find food).
All in all, it was a very nice location to stay, a perfect rest day after a number of days on the road.
This was our first trip of this type (club trip) that we’ve ever been on, wasn’t sure what to expect, starting with 20ish cars, 40ish people 99% unknown to us we had a great time and would not hesitate to do similar in the future. When the trip first come up it wasn’t something I imagined my wife Sandra would enjoy and initially thought of asking a friend, but Sandra had other ideas and glad we were able to enjoy the experience together.
Thanks again to Graham & Claire for organising.
