Report from Roy and Clive Rogers
On day 15 we travelled from Lake Geneva, Hilton Hotel, with Dijon being our next destination.
We headed off from the hotel after breakfast and began our travels along the lake – the view really was breath taking, almost like you were looking at a painting. As we journeyed on, we came across a very large water fountain, the Jet d’eau at Geneva, which seemed to go forever upwards!
We began to climb the rugged mountains, with picturesque villages and hamlets dotted throughout. As we climbed, Graham and Claire were in the lead, Magnus up second and we were bringing up the rear.
At one point, we stopped on the climb to the top to admire the view over Geneva- it really was just wonderful! Looking down onto the vast lake, the town of Geneva, and mountains and valleys dotted either side, it certainly is a view we will be sure to never forget.
After our little pit stop, we continued to carry on up to the top of the mountain and then began our descent down the other side. Again, the most incredible views on the way down; with a number of hair pin bends- we certainly had to keep our eyes on the road.
We had soon stopped off looking for somewhere for lunch and found a lovely village. We enjoyed a ham and cheese roll and pastries from the patisserie which we ate in a small village centre; the sun was shining, and it was nice to be able to stretch your legs.
We continued on our way to Dijon, and soon checked into the hotel Mercure; the very same hotel we had stayed in 10 years before.
We spent the afternoon exploring Dijon; a beautiful big city with a tram going through the middle of the roundabout and further on down, another roundabout with a statue and water fountain in the centre!
That evening, we enjoyed our meal in a quaint restaurant- what a fantastic day we had. Hats off to Graham and Claire for superb navigation.
