Some of the morning sights in and around Cortina d’Ampezzo town.
After the rain yesterday it appeared to be a dry day with a local shower. Since a rest day was programmed Bert and I decided to go for a mountain walk.
We went to the Natural Parc of Cinque Torri on a elevation of 2200 meters. It is not far from Cortina, but the time to get there is longer than the distance would predict.
Spiralling through the mighty Dolomites we arrived at the bottom of the lift towards the lowest viewing point. From there several hikes are pointed out. We took a hike along the remnants of a Italian fortification used in the First World War against the Austrians. After a well deserved coffee we walked to the highest viewing point. The weather was still fair, but clouds were coming up and the wind was increasing. On the way up we met a shepherd with his flock and a film crew making an ad-movie.
Since my car was still open at the bottom of the lift and the weather changing, we decided to go back to the car to close the roof before it got wet inside. Happily, were back in time. While having a late lunch in nearby cabin, it started to rain.
In the afternoon we rest a little bit and reading a classic car magazine and watching on the telly the F1 classification in Monza. Afterwards we did some reconnaissance downtown and found a nice wine bar with a great variety of Italian wines.
Before everyone headed out to dinner, it was back over to Hotel Cortina where Rob Sargeant held the draw on behalf of C2C sponsor Opie Oils.
Rob had made arrangements with the for a discount on the Millers petrol additive for the duration of the trip. As part of the deal Opie had also provided 10 further bottles of the additive as well as 10 mugs. Everyone was entered, with the draw being made by staff at Hotel Cortina.
Our thanks to Rob, Opie Oils, and everyone at Hotel Cortina.
